The AMA recently released the 2009 CPT Code Updates which become effective Jan 1.

There are over 130 code revisions in this report. The Preventive Medicine Services area was given the additional wording of “appropriate immunization(s)” to the code sets 99381-99386 and 99387-99397.

  • Over 130 code revisions for 2009.
  • Most of the revisions occur in the Surgery Section under the sub-sections Repair – Intermediate and Cardiovascular.
  • Under the Repair – Intermediate sub-section the wording Layer closure is replaced with Repair, intermediate.
  • An additional area containing significant revisions(19) occurred in the Evaluation and Management Section. Most of these revisions apply to either the Prolonged Services or Preventive Medicine Services areas.
  • The Preventive Medicine Services area was given the additional wording of “appropriate immunization(s)” to the code sets 99381-99386 and 99387-99397.
  • In addition, The Medicine Section was given 20 revisions under the sub-section Cardiovascular.
